Administrative Audit Division
MMS has developed an industry specific product tailored especially for churches and not-for-profit organizations.
Methodology
Data collection
A variety of methods are used to collect data to ensure a healthy and accurate cross-sectioning of inputs. Those methods include:
- On-site staff interviews – interview various staff to collect data
- On-site observations – observe procedures and systems
- Bank, contribution and various vendor confirmations
- On-site and off-site inspection – collect data on a random transaction basis for analysis
- Phone calls/e-mails – follow-up phone calls and/or e-mails to clarify and verify information
Data analysis
- All collected data is analyzed off-site, area by area, and also reviewed as a whole for further comparison.
- Data is then analyzed based on comparison to industry norms, and from the experience of not only the auditor collecting the data, but other MMS staff as appropriate. All final reports are reviewed internally by MMS to collect additional opinions and scrutinize the analysis.
Report of Findings
After data has been collected and analyzed, it is placed into a “Report of Findings.” The report explains the processes of data collection, states the data collected, analyzes the data, and makes recommendations for improvement.
A preliminary copy is issued to the church to review for accuracy and correctness of the data. In addition, it serves as a discussion tool to ensure the completeness of the process. After the preliminary report has been discussed and approved, a final copy is submitted.
